Optical Illusion

Optical Illusion art piece made with triangles that are different size measurements. Monochromatic is used by the color red and mixing it with black and white to get other colors. The duration of the painting took about a week or two and I used only one brush and it was a flat brush to mix the colors. I chose to do a piece like this because I am a beginner painter and I was never good at painting so this seemed like something that I could accomplish. I as well saw it as something I wouldn't stress over to complete. Goals that I wanted for this painting was to not paint over into the other sections and I think I did a ok job with that but definitely can be worked on. Overall I am proud of myself for finishing the piece and I learned a few things from my first painting this year.

Smoke Painting

I had no plan for this piece and that is why it doesn't look like anything specific. This piece was created by the smoke of a candle, we would go outside and use a lit candle and place it close to the paper so that the smoke could land onto the paper. I personally think this type of painting is difficult to learn but it can definitely create something great. My goal for this practice piece was to cover most of the paper in smoke so that I could try and draw something but the wind prevented that from happening. Overall I learned that this type of painting style may be dangerous and done at own risk.

Ink Blowing

I used a straw and a water color paint pallet to create a volcano erupting. I used the colors red, orange, and a bit of yellow then painted the volcano brown. A straw was used to blow the paint in different directions to make it look like its erupting. I chose to do this because I saw something similar on pinterest. Overall I think this piece looks cool, it was a practice piece because i'm new to ink blowing and never used a straw to paint.

Paper Marbling

I didnt exactly have a plan for this piece
it was all freestyle and I was adding colors that I thought would look cute and I think it looks cute overall. There were many colors to choose from and I had a straw to move the colors into any direction and a brush to swipe over to give the cool effect. Nothing really inspired me to make this, it was all practice to something new and I just went with the flow. Overall I think the outcome of the piece is very cool and I wish to make something cooler next time.

Teke Teke Nightmare Painting

This painting was based off of a Urban Legend about a girl who got stuck in the tracks and it results in her getting split in half. She haunts people and it says that she's fast without legs. I chose to do my project based on Teke Teke because it was one of the two urban legends that I knew of and it was around Halloween so it was perfect for a nightmare theme. I created this painting using the color red and mostly black and white. The black circle in the middle of the painting is the main point and its where everything should align. My goal for the art piece was to make it not so basic and to enhance it and add a twist. I learned about what a point of a midpoint is and how it's used in a painting to bring everything together. Overall I think this was a fun piece to create during Halloween and it took a lot of time but with that time I learned new things.

Anything but a canvas

I used an ornament as my anything but a canvas because it was around Christmas time. Red is the primary color and I mixed white until I got a cute pink color. I had to paint the ornament white in three layers before adding color. I had my Dad get me a box of ornaments last minute and I bought one into school and decided to use it as my anything but a canvas. I did bows on my ornament because I think they're cute and I love pink. My goal for this was to have it done before I went on break but I unfortunately did not meet the goal because I decided to procrastinate. I think this project was very different, I've never painted anything different from a canvas or paper. I wish I could've painted the bows better but I worked with the time that I had.

Beyond the Border Watercolor

I drew a turtle, pink flowers, and two pretty fish on the outside of the square. I decided on a turtle by taking a spirit animal quiz online and answering truthfully to the questions that were provided and my results were a sea turtle and i'm honestly amazed at what my result was. I did everything in pencil first then outlined it in thin sharpie and techniques that I used were wet on wet method for the shell and the flowers. My goal for this piece was for the water to not bleed into other areas and I think that goal was pretty hard to achieve. My overall thoughts of this piece is that I really like it, I think it's pretty and I like how the flowers came out and for the shell it was more of a trust the process because when first starting the shell I wasn't very sure on how it would turn out but the more that I worked on it I was able to seek out a vision. This piece will influence me in the future by being more patient and trusting the process and hopefully use my time wisely.

Watercolor Technique with Ink- 1 Day

I was given 1 day to test a water color technique on a full page of paper. I mixed blue and purple water colors and after wetting the whole page I then did the wet on wet method and after I applied a big layer of clear saran wrap on the whole page and that results in the crystal like effect. After it dried I then sketched a butterfly on top because I thought it would fit the vibe of it and later outlined it with a sharpie. The idea of the work was to make the wings seem crystallized but I am not sure with the finish piece.  My goal for this test run was to wet the whole page and apply the saran wrap all over the paper before the water dries. Overall I enjoyed the test run because my favorite technique that I learned was the saran wrap and I liked how it looked.

Cubism Painting

Cubism was the main technique used in my final painting for the class. I split up areas on the canvas with different angles and circles and made the background different shades of blue to emphasize the shapes. In the center of the piece is an owl standing on a part of a tree branch that splits up through out the canvas. I used rulers to create the different angles to split up the canvas and I only used acrylic paint on this piece. I had to make a lot of browns and when painting feathers I tried my best to not shake that much. I was inspired to do an owl as my final piece because I took a spirit animal test online and the results were an owl. I believe that the match is accurate because I tend to be an observant person and always cautious and aware of my surroundings. Owls are quiet and observant animals and I can relate to that. My goals for this piece was to put my all into it and end off the school year feeling satisfied and stress free. Overall I believe that there are ways to enhance the piece and I could've done more but I am happy with the final results. I strongly believe that this is the best piece that I created this year and couldn't have ended the year off strong without the guidance of my teacher.
